Where Would You Be without God? A Reflection Upon Psalm 124

Where would you be without God?

Do you contemplate this question?  How often?  When?

So often in our lives, our thoughts are better reflected in another thought, “God, if only You had…”

But, in this thought we forget God’s grace, mercy, and continual presence.  We overlook where we would be without God.

Read Psalm 124 and reflect on God’s presence in you life.

(English Standard Version)

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

124 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side—
let Israel now say—
if it had not been the Lord who was on our side
when people rose up against us,
then they would have swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was kindled against us;
then the flood would have swept us away,
the torrent would have gone over us;
then over us would have gone
the raging waters.

Blessed be the Lord,
who has not given us
as prey to their teeth!
We have escaped like a bird
from the snare of the fowlers;
the snare is broken,
and we have escaped!

Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

Where would you be without God today?  Take time today and contemplate the goodness of God’s presence in your life, and say with the Israelites of old, “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…”

Let God be praised in your life and the life of your family.  Put yourself in the Psalm this week and pray these words of praise back to God for all He has done.

  1. Very thought provoking! We take Gods grace for granted! We need to be thankful for every second God gives us & pray we use our time to glorify God in everything we do or say! Love you!
